Fire and Rescue Service

Welcome to Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service

Andy Fry, Chief Fire Officer

CFO Andy Fry

As Chief Fire Officer of Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service, I would like to thank you for visiting our web pages. It is our intention that, by looking around the site, you will gain a greater appreciation of how our Service is structured and how we carry out our role.

The website contains a wealth of fire safety advice and information for you to view; this being one of the many ways in which we strive to make Suffolk a place where people live safe and fulfilling lives.

Our Service answers about 10,000 emergency calls a year and attends 8,500 emergencies.  Of these, over 1200 are serious fires, including some 400 accidental fires in the home and 460 are serious road traffic collisions.

Of our 35 fire stations, four are crewed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (fulltime) and three are crewed during the day (day crewed).  All stations have on-call crews where firefighters respond to emergencies from their main jobs or from home as and when required.  28 stations have on-call crews only.  Recruiting, training and retaining on-call firefighters is, therefore, extremely important to the effective running of the Service.  Our headquarters is based at Endeavour House, Ipswich which is also the county council’s headquarters building.

I hope you enjoy looking around our website and visit again. We continually strive to make improvements in all aspects of our Service and would welcome any comments or feedback on the website.
