The Local Transport Plan sets out broad objectives to encourage sustainable travel and economic growth, and traffic management measures can be implemented to help achieve this. Traffic management measures may be introduced to solve an identified traffic problem on Suffolk’s roads, and such schemes will:
- achieve safe travel by reducing accident levels;
- improve pedestrian safety and accessibility;
- promote and accommodate the maintenance and improvement of public transport; and
- promote cycling
The need for a traffic management scheme (and the type of measures to be used) can be identified in a variety of ways - for example, there may be a cluster of accidents or the reported concerns of residents which prompt an investigation.
